We will pick up our chicks today! This year insted of purchasing them via mail order we met someone within our own community who's hatched some from their own flock. We are very happy to be contributing to the sustainabilty of our local community by keeping our purchases local - WooHoo!
Now I have to "crack the whip" to get my dad and hubby to help me finish up the coop here at our new home before the chicks are too big to keep out in the mud room ... wish me luck!
Do you purchase your chicks through mail order or locally?

I always order thru the mail. Cackle Hatchery and Murray McMurray. I've seen people pick up chick at Tractor Supply or Farm and fleet and not be happy with them. There is always a small rate of fruition but, quality superceeds that. I have a second batch coming in towards the end of July which includes broilers and turkeys. Just right for Thanksgiving!
