Hello! I have "discovered" a fabulous herb that was introduced to me way up north in Northern British Columbia. It grew in poor/clay soil, it had to tolerate wind, and infrequent waterings (at times), but grew tall and bushy. Some of the plants I saw in town that had grown closer to houses were over seven feet tall! I had an opportunity to buy a clump of it at a garden/herb yard sale! Very little maintenance, and I chopped it almost to the ground in the fall. In the spring it came back wonderfully. It looks like and smells like celery - in grand scale. The mature stalks are hollow and rather pithy, but the tender young bits and leaves are very celery like and can be dried and used for seasoning. In Ireland, I've been told they grow huge crops of these and sell them in stew bundles in the store. These are reportedly three year plants, but if given time and room will self seed. The root system can get quite substantial and takes a bit of digging to remove or divide/sell - give away. These are very friendly plants and should be, I think - in everyone's garden! I just love it. I do not know if I am telling anyone anything new, but I am just so sold on it I had to share. Thanks - Enjoy! Joanna
