I want to know what is the first thing that I can plant, and when, I am so anxious to get out into the garden. ;D

It's me again :-)
You can actually start your salad crops in side and transplant them outside..I don't plant a garden here in Michigan until Memorial Day..unless you have a cold frame set up...a previous issue of Countryside Magazine I have shows how to build a simple one out of old windows..made perfect sense to me..I do like to start my tomatoes, herbs, peppers about mid February and keep them in a nice sunny location. I have a "herd" of cats here so I have to be extra careful..they love to dig in the dirt..
I do recommend using Miracle Grow Potting Soil to start your plants with..that seems to have the best success rate and doesn't have the gnat larvae that some other soils have..
I save my containers pretty much year round and use the black trays, mushroom packages for the seeds...or you can use one of those plastic trays with the lid..saran wrap is fine for a cover..you want to keep the soils moist until those seedlings pop up.
I am so anxious to get out there too...we are putting in 3-5 more raised beds..I upped the number by 2 as I have to transplant a bed of strawberries, and that one I am going to really have to think on..as they are runners...and have overtaken the area I just popped them into the ground with.
I have lots of irises and ornamental grasses as well that are just heeled into the soil..those also have to be relocated...
What seeds are you going to start??
God bless and happy gardening. Sister Penny
