Hello! I am just so anxious, this is the first year in a long time I've been excited enough to start actually planning to put what - where. (Have been tumultuous five years...health issues, moving, marriage, baby, health issues..) Whu! I am starting to plan where I want to put sunflowers and sweet peas. My Grandmother lives way up in Northern Alberta, Canada in a tiny town called LaGlace("the ice")! She usually planted her sweet peas as soon as she could move the soil. If she could move the soil she told me she could plant them. (I am sure it froze lightly some after she could do that.) So, that is now my rule of thumb for sweet peas (don't they smell just lovely?)! She used to also start her glads in tin pie plates in the mud room where light from the window would get them, approx. 3-4 wks before actually planting. All depends on how soon you want to see blooms outside. (no soil in the pans - just water and glads) Dreaming spring, Joanna
