I wanted to share my recent findings with everyone. I have read To Train Up A Child by Michael and Debi Pearl two times. Both of which I never got a thing out of! I suppose I was not ready to hear the truth about how horrible I was being or "training" up my girls. I let a friend borrow the book and earlier this week she returned it (after having it 6+ months). So I began reading it again. I decided this because I have heard so many women rave about how wonderful it has changed things for them. I realized my 3yr old is out of control.... Not in the horrible sense of the word, but she is STRONG WILLED and does whatever she wants. My 5yr old is pretty good, but VERY EMOTIONAL. So I was thinking I want different for my 10 month old. I want to beging new and make sure I don't make the same mistakes with her. She is so sweet, never cries, loves on everyone, and I just pray it stays that way. Anyway to make a long story short I began reading the book again. I am on chapter 4 and I am amazed on how much is sinking in my brain this time! I am ready to listen. I am ready to see my mistakes in child training, and I am ready to make the necessary changes to have a warm inviting home where there is much love! I know that this is what I have needed all along. I have been taking the wrong approach to my girls. I count to 3, I give chances after chanes, I don't spank at the right times, I blow up and explode at their expense. In the past two days there already has been a tremendous change in my house. Thanks to Michael and Debi Pearl for writing this wonderful book, and a huge thanks goes to Sister Michelle who introduced me to this book almost two years ago.

I also have that book. When I read the book, consistancy is what really "hit home" for me. Improving my consistancy in discipline really made all the difference in our home. Thanks for sharing, and it's great to see you posting in the boards tb

Funny you should write this post. I just received an email today from a Christian site that promotes the book. The email was about a parent who said that the Pearl's are unbiblical and scripture twisters concerning child training. Ok, I have read the book in pieces...not fully through but I didn't recall anything to that degree back then...but that was 3-4 years ago. Anyway the Christian group that promoted the book wrote back in response a nice Biblical based defense of it. I am not for or against the book, like I said I didn't read it through...so I will make no comment on it. I can say that I have read "Created t be his helpmeet" and I enjoyed it. So if the book gives you guidance and insight...then I am happy for you.

We also were turned onto TTUAC a few years back, along with the entire NGJ series. We love their literature. Michael Pearl is in love with the LORD and does not aspire to any set tradition of a denomination. If you listen to his teachings he goes verse by verse, and is very exhaustive. I don't agree with everything he teaches but I haven't ever heard a message of his where he taught false doctrine. On the other hand he has taught things that I don't believe are true but are not doctrine. As far as his Child Training Teachings, its like he says, you can use them to train a goat. They are fundamental truths about teaching that apply to everyone. There is another series out there that I believe to be the best one I've ever heard. It's by Denny Kenaston, it's called the Godly Home Series. You can listen to it for free on their website, download it or free, or if you would like CD's they can sell them to you. www.charityministries.org Bro. Denny is intense, sold out for the Home. My prayer is that I would keep the vision for a Godly home. I fail in this often, but LORD willing I'll continue failing forward. In either of these men's series the problem we have is that we don't catch a clear vision for the family. Denny address' this in one of his messages. That we see things in the books and messages that we agree with, we see the end results and we want them, but we only catch a glimpse of the vision and we try to live it but then a few weeks down we go back to our ways. Once we catch a full vision of what God can do through our children if we train them up right we will be diligent.
