TB ~ I am not sure if you have power yet in your area but I am looking to hear how you fared through the hurricane. When time, power and energy allows please let me know how you are doing. I don't have your email address so I left you a PM on the board as well as this post. thinking of you.

I know that she was planning on being out of electricity for some time.
I have been praying for all of you affected by this storm; I can't even imagine what people are going through.
Please post any specific prayer requests so that the rest of us may lift those concerns to God.
May God continue to bless each one of you.

Thank you mountaingirl for asking about prayer concerns...here are a few...
1. for the residents that still have not been able to return to Galveston because the authorities have the Island closed. there is still no power, natural gas, fuel, food, water, sewer service, cell services, land line services, ice, etc. So the Island is unlivable. No one knows if they have a home to return to or what condition it will be in when found.
2. for finances. most are out of work and have no means of income.
3. for peace. this is so stressful for everyone, and patience is running low on lots.
4. for electricity to be restored to all soon. the power workers have been doing a fantastic job but there are still tons without power.
5. for the entire area. we just need prayer for the entire area and all involved.

Thank you for posting prayer concerns. Please keep them coming. I cannot be there or help out financially but I can pray.

Thank you ladies for thinking of me!!
Our power was restored on Saturday, phones on Sunday & our internet this evening. I am so happy to share a wonderful praise report ...
The Lord really had His hand of protection upon us during the storm. Although we are a good 75 miles northeast of Galveston Island, we still experienced 70+ mph winds with gusts up to 100 mph. (yes, we were on the east ("dirty") side of the storm). We lost a total of 6 trees (our 60+ ft. pecan tree that stood less than 10ft. from our boy's bedroom fell into both lanes of the highway - not onto the house - PRAISE THE LORD!), three roof panels from the barn, a couple roof support beams cracked because of the weight of trees on the barn roof, and some siding from the east side of the house. As bad as that may sound to some, it is a blessing to us because...
Bolivar Peninsula was completely washed away - including all the debris (there were people who didn't evacuate and are now missing). Oak Island is gone. It will take YEARS to rebuild Galveston Island and many areas of Chambers County. Many not only lost ALL their possessions and homes but also their businesses and jobs.
Home after home in our neighborhood has trees sticking out of the roofs. One home near us had a HUGE tree crash right down the center trapping a man in his bedroom - it was TWO days (no water, no food) before he was discovered as EVERYONE in our area was without electricity, land-line & cell phones.
The short term positives that I've seen come out of this:
-neighbors helping neighbors without having to be asked
-teenagers talking to their parents because the computers, video games and cell phones were out!
-teenagers interacting with younger siblings
-a blast of cool weather AFTER a hurricane! Anyone who lives in the Gulf Coast area knows that this is absolutely unheard of! After a "normal" hurricane the temps usually RISE about 10 degrees going from 90 something to near or just over 100 degrees with super high (80%+) humidity. No electricity for a/c or fans makes it unbearable. However, the Lord sent us His idea of a/c and we experienced nights in the mid 60's and days in the low 80's with low humidity - it was heavenly.
-parents spending time with children and family as they were off from work because everything was closed because of no electricity.
-thousands of aid workers, electrical repair crews, emergency personnel from all over the US and Canada coming to help us out
-less than 24 hours after the storm concluded our federal, state and local officials had effectively worked together and were deploying points of distribution (pods) for ice, water and emergency food (for at least a week before the storm our news stations continually reminded us to stock up on 3 days worth of water, non-perishable foods and fill our gas tanks because it generally takes AT LEAST 3 days to get aid to devastated areas). Houston was getting aid within 24 hours - that's a BLESSING!
As awful as this hurricane was, I am confident our Lord will bring beauty out of these ashes. We have to go through the storm before we can see the rainbows.
I'd also like to thank each and everyone of you who prayed for everyone who was in the path of Hurricane Ike. I know that because of your prayers this storm wasn't as bad as it could have been. Yes, the storm surge was a cat. 4+, but the wind speed was only and high cat.2., this storm did not spawn a bunch of tornadoes as often happens, and although the destruction is tremendous - it could have been MUCH worse. Thank you for all the prayers of protection.
