This weekend I was talking to someone about the Vita-Mix Super 5200. I had heard of this brand before but never really knew anyone who had one or used one, so I am not that familiar on it. Anyway, I began looking online to get any and all information about it that I could. I read user reviews (which were all 100% positive feedback.) I went to the main Vita-Mix website www.vitamix.com/, watched the demo videos and I must admit...I am really impressed. It is such a versatile appliance. I do realize that it is not cheap, but when you consider all that it does, it's really not that more expensive than the cost of a buying a grain mill, food processor, meat grinder, ice crusher, etc. separately. This is just to name a few of the things that it does and the other appliances it would replace (although I admit, nothing would replace my Kitchen-Aid stand mixer *grin*) Have any of you used a Vita-Mixer before or know anyone who has? What are your thoughts on it? Any and all opinions and thoughts on the product (even an older model) would be greatly appreciated. ~blessings

I bought one about two/three yrs. ago & never use it..we saw a demo at Sams & it looked so good & you can do anything...so they say...from soup to ice cream back to back but the demonstrators had been trained...they're too expensive for what they are...I've used it afew times for smoothies but you need a grocery store to have all the "stuff" on hand plus you can't find but just afew reciepes...I wouldn't do it again...paid over $500 for it...ugh...could kick myself...but DH wanted it...it's in my pantry...!I'd sell mine....

Hmmmm...thanks Jalynn for your info on this. I am still interested in seeing it in action. Next month there is a big Home show that they will be demonstrating at. I would like to see it for the grain mill. That is a big interest to me. My dad is really interested in it as well. So we shall see.
I do agree it is a lot of money for it so that is why I am wanting all the info on it that I can find.

I don't own one but have seen it in action as well outside of the demo. We raised peanuts for our gardening group and made peanut butter. A friend brought over her Vitamix and it did up the roasted peanuts into peanut butter with no problem! I was impressed! If it can do that and if you do intend to use it to grind a small amount of grain then, you might want to consider it. However, I grind a Lot of grain and bought a mill for that. My blender (cheapy Oster) does shakes and slushies just fine.

I haven't ever ground grains before so I thought this would be a good tool to use. I am not a smoothie fan at all, so that would not be one of my uses. I like the nut butter factor as well as the issue that you can make hot soups in it without having to cook, the cold factor was a great things too. I don't know...it is costly so I am definitely thinking about it. Hubby wants to see it in action as well before we really make a decision but I don't think we will decide anyway soon.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments on it though.

I know this is late in the game, but I LOVE MY VITA MIX, I use it literally for everything. I have a rather small kitchen when it comes to cupboard space, and it replaces three or four other small appliances that I used to use, infrequently and that did nothing but clutter my cupboards most of the time. I would buy one again in a heart beat. Pricey, yes..but considering all the appliances I DON'T have to buy, well worth the money. It even grinds grain into flour, so I can buy the raw grain much more cheaply and grind it as I need it, and it's much fresher. What can I say?..I'm sold!

Oh neat, I had no idea it would grind grain also.
Can it be used as a food processor also?

Sister Michelle, yes it can be used as a food processor, you just use a pulsing type motion (let it run a bit, turn it off, turn it on, till it's the way you want it to be. I've even kneaded whole wheat bread dough in it, using the same method, ALOT easier on my hands. I've also made hot soup and frozen desserts, you can make baby food, goodness, I haven't found anything I can't make in it yet..so many ways it can be used. Just a hint on grinding grain, however much grain you're going to grind, put that amount in the freezer the night before, I did five pounds of white rice in less than 10 minutes, for a friend who is gluten sensitive and who was paying a ridiculously high price for rice flour. the freezing of the grains before use, keeps the motor from over heating, when you're going to do alot of grinding.(This was part of the advice in the owners manual.
