I am looking for good solid curriculum that I can use with all the kids. I have heard good things about apologia science and am thinking of using that. Have no idea for history. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Sister Michelle,
We've been pleased with Apologia science.
When we first started out homeschooling #3 was entering the 8th grade and we initially tried Bob Jones and Aabeka sciences ... they didn't work very well for us because they seemed to be written with the private school & science teacher in mind. We were not always successful with the experiments & since I am not a strong science person the lessons were often over my head - not good when I'm trying to teach it to my kiddos.
When #3 entered the 10th grade we decided to try Apologia. It worked beautifully for him. The text and all the experiments are written specifically with the home school in mind.
When it was time to select a science curriculum for my elementary children, I again went to Apologia. It has worked out better than any other curriculum I've tried. Again, the experiments are easy to understand, follow, are written specifically for the home schooler AND my children have success with them. My 5th grader and 2nd grader are currently studying the elementary Botany curriculum. This curriculum is working very well for the two different skill levels and maturity. My 5th grader does the more difficult assignments and my 2nd grader does the easier ones. We all work on the experiments together.
We've also recently had an opportunity to try some lessons from Answers In Genesis (www.answersingenesis.org) of which, we've been VERY pleased.
As far as history ... I am still searching for an affordable history curriculum that offers EVERYTHING I'm looking for. Currently I am strongly leaning toward writing my own lesson plans, worksheets and tests for American History using various materials from Wall Builders (www.wallbuilders.com). For years I have wanted to try Veritas Press for world history but the accumulative costs have always been too much for us.
I hope my limited experiences help you in your search for science and history curriculum this year. tb
