We've had a nice decorative tree stored in our shed for the past year and just freed up space for it in the house. It's dusty, and dusty smelling. I think the plastic parts have absorded the dusty smell now, so maybe it's too late. The ideal solution would be to go back in time a year and make sure DH covered it when he took it out, but in any case I now have a dusty tree, and shaking it outdoors had minimal effect. I'm slowly working at dusting the branches by hand, but the dusty smell is still with us. The weather won't let me keep it outside for any length of time, though I might if we get a nice day. Anyhow, anyone have recommendations about how to get rid of the dusty smell? The tree is too big and awkward to dip in water and wash, even the bathtub. I'm leaning toward Febreeze.

Perhaps on a nice day hosing it off and letting it dry in the sun? The sun would likely rid it of its musty smell.

The hose is away for the winter, so I can't do that. I might just try dipping it in the bathtub anyway, and see what happens. (Major flooding is probably what would happen.) I suppose I could lay it down on the deck and pour buckets of water over it, couldn't I? There's got to be a way!
