... the Most Out of Your Grocery Budget?
My top 4 are:
1. Cook EVERYTHING from scratch (Hillbilly Housewife is a good resource for beginners) 2. Maintain a weekly meal plan 3. Purchase only sale items 4. Produce as much food as possible @ home (we currently grow many vegetables and herbs, raise chickens and will add lambs & rabbits this spring)

1. Use coupons. You ladies in the States have the edge on me in that department, (You can't stack coupons here, and there are no double coupon days here) but I do still subscribe to several email lists and a facebook page or two that link me to good grocery coupons. 2. Wait until items go on sale before using coupons. In fact, wait for items to go on sale before you buy them at all! 3. Unless there's literally no money there, it's okay to go "over budget" for the week on groceries when stocking up on a great sale... it will save you money in the long run. 4. Have a big freezer! 5. Everything isn't cheaper cooked from scratch. (More true in Canada than in the States, I think. For example, ingredients are expensive here compared to baked goods.) Have an idea how much it costs to make things, because I've found there are certain items that I can buy on sale more cheaply than I can make them from scratch. 6. Meat is generally the most expensive part of any meal. Casseroles are a great money-saver because you don't have to use as much meat. 7. Frozen make-ahead meals ease the temptation to eat out. Even a frozen lasagna or pizza from the grocery store is cheaper than eating out, so for that reason we keep that sort of thing on hand for the occasional crazy day where supper from scratch can't happen. 8. Don't stay on the internet too long making lists when you should be starting supper, lol! Have a good evening, ladies!
