Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct my homemade dishwasher soap problem? I use 2 T Borax and 2 T Baking Soda, I also put vinegar in the rinse section where you would normally put JetDry.
My problem is that it leaves a horrible cloudly film on everything.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so what did you do to correct it?

I never made my own dishwasher soap...the house brand at Walmart does such a great job & isn't that expensive...w/Jet Dry...it's worth it to me & I "save" in other areas.

I found a wonderful recipe at The New Homemaker. The recipe you gave above, it did the exact same thing for me too. Here's the one I use: Dishwasher Powdered Soap 1 cup borax 1 cup baking soda 1/4 cup salt 1/4 cup citric acid or two packets of unsweetened Lemonade-Flavored Kool-Aid, 30 drops citrus essential oil--lemon, grapefruit, orange, tangerine, or a mixture Put all of it into a clean, airtight container, shake it up. To use, put a tablesthingy or so into each cup of your dishwasher. Can also use on counters and in sink as you would Bon Ami. www.thenewhomemaker.com/dishwasherpowderI use kool-aid and I found that the essential oil is necessary - it really helps with the spots! And I use vinegar in my rinse cycle, too. These together work great!

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I will go out either this week or next week and look at prices for the essential oil and Lemonade.
I run my dishwasher twice a day and I currently spend just under $8 a month on dishwasher soap.
If you don't mind me asking you, how long does this batch last you? and how often do you run your dishwasher?
If these questions are too personal then please except my apologies. I'm just trying to figure out if it would be more cost effective for me to make my own dishwasher soap or to continue to purchase it.

I am sorry I didn't write back sooner! I run my dishwasher maybe once every day or every other day, the rest of the time I handwash (money saving, that's all). I could do on load every day, otherwise. One batch makes 36 loads, so it usually takes me a bit to use-up, unless I have pots and pans I put in, then I add an extra Tablesthingy into the open container. I would say it takes me about a month and a half to two months. I averaged that one batch of this stuff costs about 75 cents to make. So, for you, it would cost about $1.25 per month, or just a little under. Actually, since my estimate went over quite a bit for my own personal budgeting, you'd probably spend less. I can figure it out again for you, if you wish, but it may take me a couple of days to get back to you. I didn't keep the slip of paper I was working on. (der) LOL, certainly not too personal for me. I am willing to share my experiences in most areas of life - dishwashing is not a bother for me at all.
