Tuesday is our library day here. We always seem to be searching for a book at the last minute. Almost always it is DS who is 9 who has one missing. He is our reader. I finally put my foot down and said no books at the table. Any ideas for organization in this area would be appreciated. Also book ideas for boys would be great. It is hard to pick out books that would interest him and yet not feed the flesh.

I understand completely about the lost book issue! With six children, it was of key importance to have someplace to keep all the library books seperate from our personal books. So, I found an attractive laundry basket and that became our "Library basket". The printout list of books gets posted on the 'fridge. When it comes time to go to the library again, I have one of the children get the list and mark off the ones in the basket and highlight the "lost" ones. There hasn't been many that are have been hard to find. Once my chldren are old enough to get their own library card (10 yrs) then they are responsible for their own books check out and must pay the fine. Once they have to pay the fine a couple of times, they'll catch on. We do not go every week. Its just too much. We go every other week and get enough books to last. The library was gracious enough to allow us more books than the usual family because we homeschool and there are so many of us. Asking the librarian for an added number of books allowed may help out in the times when research papers are being worked on!

I just love library days also. We do the basket thing and that really helps alot with keeping them in a central location. Also each child is to have one and only one library book out at a time. Our library does not have a limit on the number of books that you are allowed to check out. We make sure our library day will not be on the same day as story time. We used to go but with the way things are in the world I can not exspose the children to the lack of dress on some of the little girls.

Good books for boys are the Henty novels. They are all historical and they are very well done. They are written in an older style of writting so they take a little bit for the boys to get into. My 9 YO is reading a book called Understood Betsy and enjoy into alot. Also try Farmer Boy. But I learned the hard way not to give him my copies which were paper back. It is now in sections.
