I am currently homeschooling a 5,4,3 and 2nd grader with a 2 yr old also thrown in. I am using Rod and Staff right now but we are praying about using Christian Light. Anyone ever use them before? Have any advice?

I was also concidering using CLE for the older boys. It is getting tough to keep up with all of them.
Their home ec courses are really good. I used them to learn to make a cape dress.

I have been emailing them. I love Rod and Staff but being overseas with no house phone is hard as they don't do email. The only down side I see is that they charge more for being overseas. My oldest is getting farther and farther behind and I think she needs a curriculum that is more self sufficient. Also they keep grades.

I use CLE and really, really like it! My cousins teach in a private Mennonite school and have been using it and when I asked her about it she said, "Some pretty smart fellows come out of that curriculum." I also learned later that another cousin of mine, her husband writes the sixth grade math. It is very easy to use and much of what my boys (Gr. 5&4) have learned in math is self-taught after the 1st and 2nd grade. I really like the Bible curriculum but, find the science to be somewhat lacking for my boys. So, I enrich it with outside studies. The other subjects are well laid out too. The whole curriculum seems to run about a year ahead of public school and little bit more in depth. I keep the quizzes and tests in a 3 ring binder for my recording keeping and a yearly report card. That's it. It is also the cheapest complete curriculum I have found anywhere. It is a little more "showy" than Rod and Staff but still very basic. For those unfamiliar with Rod and Staff, CLE is somewhat like Alpha/Omega only plainer. We also lived overseas and shipping to us was not a problem for us. To make it easier for assignments, I print out a weekly sheet that shows what they are to do each day in each subject. They cross it off when finished. This way, if need be, I can catch them up by doubling a days lesson in math on Mon., double lessons in Reading on Tues. etc. The Reading Curriculum for grade 4 & 5 are for only about 1/2 a year. I then turn to book studies, literature, poetry, or something else. If all boys are the same, be prepared for whining about writing. My boy was in a crying fit over having to write a report last week. And it was only 2 pages! But, overall, I am completely happy with CLE. And I wouldn't worry too much about them keeping grades (as long as you can do it in a binder) until they are in High School. This is when the credits count for college and such. Let them keep the grades then and save yourself some money now. The teacher's manuals cover it all for the elementary levels if you have any question. May God guide you in your decisions.
