Ok, we are almost finished with our first year of homeschooling, I remember how afraid and doubtful I was at the beginning, God is so faithful! I know that if you are doing anything for him you will not fail, He will see to it! It's is definitely not my ability, but truly His faithfulness! I have used Abeka this year and really like the math curriculum, the phonics curriculum is another story...What do the rest of you use? I may want to shop around a little more this year Have any of you ever used anything from www.frankschaffer.comGod's Richest Blessings on all of you My Friends!

We like Rod & Staff for seat work and Hooked on Phonics for application.
Rod & Staff is reasonably priced at about $20.00 for new (includes student workbooks and teacher's manual). I can usually find the teacher's manual used and save a couple dollars there.
Hooked on Phonics is expensive if bought new. If anyone is interested in it I'd suggest they look for a used set OR use it for several children. We bought ours new 5 years ago and have used it on three children so far. We LOVE it.

I use Rod & Staff for early years and then Christian Light for later. I really like the phonics of CLE. They keep the "busy-ness" out and the pictures/grammatical rules are simple and easy for the students to follow. Each lesson has a great story with Christian morals. By the end of the year, a first grader is easily reading short chapter books with comprehension questions. Language Arts is introduced about halfway through the year and reinforces grammar rules, expands vocabulary (teaches dictionary pronunciation) contractions, and more. Things I don't I learned until 2nd grade. And they are the cheapest curriculum I've found. Visit their website: www.CLE.org

I will be switching to christian light since Rod and staff only goes to 8th grade. I liked what I saw for 1st grade and maybe will try it with Silas when he is ready for 1st grade. He is only 2. I like Rod and staff. There doesn't seem to be alot of busy work.

I also use Rod and Staff and I like it. But this year I think I am switching to Keepers Of The Faith I like their reading materials and they are not expensive at all.
