And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders; And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth. Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die. For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it. (Deu 5:23-27, KJV)
I find it interesting that the Israelites did not want to be close to God like Moses was when given the opportunity, but rather became fearful of their lives and wanted to go *away* from God. They wanted MOSES to meet with God and deliver the message 2nd hand.
Having a chance to be close to God - aware that it could cost them their lives - they chose the flesh - their earthly lives rather than God. Though, they totally EXPECTED Moses to live and bring back God's Word to them. They KNEW and had experienced God speaking to Moses, and Moses was not consumed or killed. Yet, they did not trust God for that same opportunity.
As I pondered this the other day, I had to ask myself,..how much do I trust God? It is so much easier for me to trust Him to work "big things" in someone *elses* life rather than my own.
More thoughts, but time and children call...hopefully can post tomorrow.
God bless
