I haven't posted on here in so long! Our family just got our first horse yesterday. He's a six year old appaloosa gelding. He is so sweet! I don't know anything about horses. Last night I bought the book horses for dummies. My husband knows quite a bit, but I didn't so I thought the book might help. Does anyone out there have any hints or tips that may come in handy? Thanks so much!

Hey Mistey,
The best advice I can give any wife regarding horses is to do as her husband instructs. You mentioned that your husband knows quite a bit about horses. I suggest you follow his lead in this area because every person who knows about horses has a different philosphy on how to handle them. When I married my husband (an old-time rodeo cowboy), the only things I new about horses were to feed & hay it twice a day, keep it's water trough full and clean and shovel out it's stall 2-3 times per week. I didn't even know how to saddle one! Anyway, after being around my husband and others, I discovered that each horse person has their own ideas on the best for training, discipline and care. There are folks who look at their horse as pet and care for it as if it were a lap dog. There are others, such as my husband, who veiw it as a tool which must be kept in prime condition if one is to reap the benefits of this tool. I wish you many years of fun and happiness with your new horse .. tb
