O.K. Ladies,
I was planning to remain hush, hush about this. However, I really feel the need for some prayer partners in this matter as we've never faced the following blessing?/challenge?
Last Friday my husband phoned (yes, he's working out of town again - as always) to tell me that his company has requested that he take a job transfer. This would mean some MAJOR changes in our lives.
I'm supposed to be getting my kitchen remodeled in less than 4 weeks - go figure ...
Current questions/concerns regarding this move...
1. We'd be moving more than 2,000 miles away from our very close friends who are like family to us, and support system.
2. A major climate change - from zone 9b to zone 3b. I am not adverse to cold winters, I lived in the Rocky Mountains for 4 years and LOVED the experience of 4 seasons but never experienced temperatures colder than -3 degrees. Although not common, it is possible for zone 3b to drop down to -30 degrees. My head can not comprehend temps that low. The growing season is only 160 days - can one even garden when it's that short?
3. Purchasing another home. Our current home is completely paid for. Although we were planning to purchase or build another home some time in the next 2-3 years, this is earlier than we had planned and we don't have quite as much money put back as we wanted. The housing market up there is pretty tight right now.
4. #3 is scheduled to graduate home school in December. He wants to stay put. I am not comfortable living 2000+ miles away from him right now. Although he is 18, he is just too inexperienced to be that far away from family. (note: all our extended family also lives out of state). I DO NOT have ANY peace about leaving him here. His only reason for wanting to stay put is, "This is home. I don't like being away from home."
5. Deciding what to do with our current home. Do we sell it? Do we hire a property manager and rent it? Can we let #3 stay here and live in it? Do we board it up and hope & pray it doesn't become a drug den or vandalized?
6. This move would also put us even further away from our grown children.
Upsides and positives about the transfer include:
1. Wilderness & sparse population. The entire state has a lower population than the county we currently live in. I know many folks would not like that but, I am totally grooving on the possibility. (Many years ago, I lived in a log cabin in the mountains and I've longed to return to that way of life for more than two decades - my husband would never agree to the extreme I desire, but we'd be much closer than we are now).
2. Great home schooling laws. Complete freedom of choice, no state testing, no teacher certification, etc.
3. An increase in pay is possible but not guaranteed. Although my husband earns a very good income - it is not consistent. He is paid by the day and by the project. Therefore, if he's not on a project, he's not making money. This area has the opportunity for significantly more projects than his current location.
4. Advancement in husband's career. It is very likely that he will be promoted into regional management within 18 months if he accepts this job.
5. Declining the position will NOT jeopardize his employment.
I am in complete support of whatever my husband decides to do. If he declines, we have a comfortable life here and I'll be happy. If he accepts, I am ready and eager for a new adventure to a less populated environment. My only desire is that he make the decision that is in line with God's plan for our family.
Will you all please join me in praying that my husband makes the decision lines up with God's plan for our future - whatever that may be?
In advance, I thank you all.
