First a bit of introduction:
I am 40 and my husband Jim is 45.
We have five children and one grandchild. Jolene 22 is married, Jared 21 is married and baby Emma is his first born, Chelsea 20 is at home after taking a six month missionary internship trip (New Zealand and Papua New Guinea) this year. Our 2nd "batch" consists of Seth 4 and Ethan 18 months.
We currently live in Oregon (since 1998) and have previously lived in MI, NM and TN.
God has been so good to me - that is all I know. ;D
I was saved in a VBS at the age of nine (1975) but neither parent was saved and we were generally not church-goers. So there was no discipleship/learning for several years.
When I was 12 my parents got a divorce and my mom and us children moved to NM where we started going to a non-denominational Bible church. Doctrinally it was straight so I got a foundation there.
However, in my later teens years I did the rebellion thing and got away from God for several years. Finally God put my husband and I in a tight spot and we realized we needed to get right with God and find a church. God in His mercy used things I had learned from my years in the Bible church to guide us to the right kind of church. Another thing God did was give me as a teen the King James Bible and I never let go of that. I didn't even know why back then, but I just knew the "plain old Bible" was right.
Anyways, in 1989 we walked into a small country King James, independent, fundamental, baptist church in east TN and knew we were home. PRAISE GOD! We haven't looked back since. God has been so faithful to us over the years - being patient and merciful and bringing the right folks to disciple us and other circumstances to grow us up just when we needed it.
Sister Heather's stuff about working and private school and all that junk sounded so familiar. We have come through all that too. Even have two reversal babies to show for it.
Today we are truthfully at a bit of a "slow time" in growth. Maybe a time of mulling things over, I am not sure. Not at all going backwards, in fact becoming more aware of how many around us are and wondering why and what we can do to to make sure we don't? Does that make sense? The last four+ years have been hard after several years of glory land so I think we are just at a place of reflection and deciding how/where to go from here. As well the last of the oldest children is on the edge of the nest and we have our first grandchild.
For myself I want to make sure I don't become complacent and am so happy to find a group of ladies which I believe will motivate and challenge me to grow in the Lord as a Christian lady and a wife and mother.
Looking forward to getting to know you all better!
A Sister in Christ,
Lori
