Pro 31:15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens
So many times we just read a verse and do not really study it. I know with 5 little ones in our household I do not always take the time that I should. I have finally gotten a chance to read this verse and to study it and as always I have been convicted about my life. God has said that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” How true that is.
First off She riseth while it is yet night. I was getting up at 5 in the morning and my children asked me why I was getting up in the middle of the night. It may seem like that to some. But then she giveth meat to her household, If we look this phrase up in the Hebrew the word meat is also used in Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. The word meat is talking of the sacrafices the Spiritual food. Do I get up to delve into God’s Word to bring something to my children? She was a woman concerned with being in God’s word and if that ment being up in the middle of the night she was going to. God was a priority in her life. He was the first thing on her mind in the morning. What a wonderful example. I am so encouraged by this. I may have young ones but that does not exscuess me from taking the time I need to in God’s word. It needs to be more of a priority in my life. I need to search God’s word to find food for my little ones. They can not grow in the Lord if I am not willing to feed them.
A portion to her maidens. The word portion here has nothing to do with food. It means a statue, ordinance or decree. She planned her day. I am so guilty of just letting the day slip by and not getting anything profitable done. This Proverbs 31 lady planned ahead. I have so many resources at my fingertips. As my DH says if only I would use them. I need to be organized. So many times those of us who chose to have large families either excell in this or fail. It is our children who suffer when we fail. I need to follow some of flyladies advice. She makes what she calls a PODA ( parade of daily adventures) I also have to use a schedule. I am guilty of not using it at the day seems to slip by with out the needful things getting done.
This lady in Proverbs 31 is some one we can follow. I am so thankful that God has put her example in the Bible.

Very true. I also get up early around four-thirty and begin preparing the day for my family. I make sure things are ready for my husband to take to work and clothes are in order and set out. Hot breakfast on the ready, and lunches or other food ready and waiting. Also, that my home is laced in prayer while I do these things, that while I prepare things for their day the Lord is packed in everything, by everything, and I am more ready to be ready for them. Also that I get refilled not just in the morning but that it begins in the morning and continues to grace me with it's blessings the whole day through. Very special time, very special honor, very special privilidge. Joanna

I was fortunate enough to grow up living with my grandmother and later an aunt who were Godly women. They set before me an example of rising in the mornings and preparing & planning their days. The entire family began our day together with a hot cooked breakfast. During this time everyone's schedule was reviewed (after school chores, activities, Dr. or dentist appointments, etc.). But most important was that we all began our day covered with prayer.
As I grew up, I became a prodigal and stopped serving the Lord for a time. BUT my grandmother's and aunt's examples continued to live through me. Even though I worked weird hours outside the home for many years, I'd go to bed at 3am, wake up at 6:00 am to prepare breakfast, review the day and get the children off to school then was back in bed from 7am to 10am.
Today, I serve the Lord and he has blessed me with the privilege of staying home & home schooling our younger children. I still rise, prepare breakfast and review the day. When I returned to the Lord 14 years ago, I added prayer. I am certainly a far cry from perfect, but I constantly remind myself that just as I've continued examples that were set before me, my daughter will also continue the examples I set before her.
I love the Proverbs 31 woman. Although we may never attain her perfection, she gives direction and a goal. Through her we can see our potential reward.
